In the framework of the NEST-PROMISE project funded by the European Commission a final event will be organised in Brussels on 9-10 July 2007. The primary objective of NEST-PROMISE is to exchange knowledge and share experience on national NEST like Programmes (NLP) for the promotion of high-risk, high-innovation, exploratory, visionary, interdisciplinary, programmes and research throughout Europe. These programmes support research with high conceptual innovation but many unknowns, supporting the so-called frontier research. NEST-PROMISE project will provide practical, experience-validated methodologies and procedure, and inquire on the impacts of conducting high risk research on the career of researchers to strengthen existing HPs, to help others start new HPs, and to best introduce HINGE concepts into existing national programmes. The final event represents an excellent opportunity to learn more about the link between the Commission-driven FP6/FP7 activities and the Science-driven ERC activities with "Frontier Research" as the common denominator. The event will start on the 9 July with an evening cocktail and will continue on the 10th July with presentations from the European Commission and the European Research Council, Scientists conducting multidisciplinary, high-risk, visionary, frontier research, Key Players fostering NEST-like research programmes & initiatives. The event will also present the results of the Euro-Map on NEST-like research programmes and agencies in Europe, and provide an analysis, dissemination, and experience sharing of the methodological and social impact experiences of Europe's NEST-like programs. The event will end with the participation of different stakeholders to Focus Group Round Tables aiming at pursuing particular subsets of unresolved issues and consider strategies for the successful funding and encouragement of highly innovative, risky and multidisciplinary science. Participation is free of charge but subject to prior registration. Places are issued on a first come, first served basis. Please register before 29 June, 2007.
